Matt Gilbert

Matt has worked at VDT since completing his Master of Architecture in 2013. Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, frequent trips to the city set him on the path toward architecture from an early age. Most of his projects have involved working with existing buildings, and he enjoys the challenge of making great design happen within the constraints of an existing structure. He is currently working with the Shedd Aquarium to help implement a multi-phase master plan.

He is proud to help lead VDT's ACE Mentor team, which expands opportunity for Chicago high school students to join architecture, construction, and engineering fields. Outside of work, Matt enjoys playing the piano and cooking for family and friends. He's also frequently out on his bike, seeking out and documenting Chicago's fantastic and underrated neighborhood architecture.
