VDT’s Favorites from NeoCon 2021

VDT Goes to NeoCon:
Our Favorite Picks.

Well, this NeoCon 2021 was definitely unique. It was still freezing inside the Mart, but you could actually hear people talking and you didn’t have to wait for a break in foot traffic to make it across the corridor. All in all, a successful and inspiring event, and much needed for those of us still working at home. It was glorious to touch and feel new textiles, sit-test new products, and to simply see some of our favorite reps. If you were not able to attend, VDT is excited to share some of our favorite finds from NeoCon 2021. Enjoy!

Category: Furniture (Private Office / Conferencing)
Product Name: Palette
Company: Innovant

WHY CHRISTINE LOVES IT
Palette is a combination of casegoods and a companion wall lattice system that partner together to create a highly flexible and resilient platform ideal for furnishing private offices, shared offices, conference and huddle rooms. The interchangeable kit of parts and lattice framework allow for rooms to be reconfigured for a new use within hours by an in-house team. Surfaces snap into place, storage simply hangs from the lattice and wiring is concealed, yet easily accessible. Palette seamlessly integrates power, technology, ergonomics, and acoustics with a modern, clean aesthetic and refined, thoughtful details.

Category: Furniture (Mobile Ped)
Company: Haworth

WHY CHRISTINE LOVES IT
I found the mobile pedestal to be super cute, functional and an interesting concept for future offices planning to shift to "hot desking." It offers a guest seat and a way for an employee to store personal effects. The white pull handle actually makes it readily mobile and can act as a place to hang your jacket!

Daltile’s MyCity tile line exudes an understated clean sophistication that would work well in a myriad of different applications. It creates a subtle accent and texture that would enhance any space. Priya Bhat

Category: Ancillary
Product Name: Big Talk
Company: Scandinavian Spaces

WHY PRIYA LOVES IT
An eye-catching standout chair on its own, the Big Talk chair transforms into a curvilinear modular loveseat in multiples. After the idea of separation has been championed throughout this pandemic, it was heartwarming to see a design that bridged the gap between people and encouraged us to start to make connections again. In addition to the comfortable sit, the Big Talk line comes in 5 limited colorways (each better than the last!) though I think my personal favorite has to be the velvet finish which is the most bold and so luxurious I’ll be dreaming about it for months!

Allison Rokusek

Category: Graphics / Displays (Flooring)
Product Name: Dialogue Collection
Company: ShawContract

WHY ALLISON LOVES IT
The inspiration behind ShawContract’s Dialogue collection was told through intriguing handmade collage and drawn visual studies - Typography that had been deconstructed and rearranged form new, dynamic patterns. The product storytelling extended into irregular-shaped panels, leaned against the showroom wall, and and a pegboard with takeaway product cards. I loved how these analog elements promoted visitor interaction and balanced out the digital content in the space.

Brandon McGivern

Category: Sustainability
Product Name: Coil Collection and Flex Pure
Company: LightArt

WHY BRANDON LOVES IT
I loved the LightArt showcase so much that I had to comment on both! The Coil collection includes 3D printed, hanging light fixtures made of recycled materials. Along the wall, they had several failed attempts at achieving the right lamp shape, but each had a beautiful sculptural quality. The Flex Pure material is also made of recycled materials, which are ground into smaller pieces and appear as colorful flecks in the translucent material.
